Recently we shared our list of what we consider the best of Lexington’s barn and outdoor venues, which you can view here. While those are gorgeous venues and we love working at them, we know that not every bride is looking for a barn to get married in. Lexington has many stunning venues that fall into a category that we consider “historic” or “estate”. These venues often feature a large home that may or may not still be a residence. Many still have a farm setting, some also have barns and some can be found right in the middle of town. We invite you to view this list that we have compiled and let us know if you’ve had the pleasure of visiting any of these venues.
Winchester Opera House
Let’s start with one of our favs…Winchester Opera House. This venue is located in downtown Winchester, KY and is comprised of Moundale Manor, the Historic Church, and the Opera House. Moundale Manor is a stunning estate with lovely rooms available to get ready in for the bride and the groom. The wedding ceremony can take place on the lawn in front of the manor or in the historic church. The Opera House is perfect for the reception!
Berry Hill Mansion
Berry Hill Mansion is an impressive estate built in 1900 in Frankfort, KY and is owned by the state. A massive cathedral organ is one of the highlights of this beautiful space along with a library balcony, ornately carved woodwork and stained glass.
Formerly the Lexington Courthouse, Limestone Hall is located on the top floor and you can’t beat that impressive dome! The venue offers space for events in the rotunda, east and west rooms. We love how the space uniquely combines the elegance of a historic venue with industrial charm.
We included Warrenwood Manor in our barn and outdoor venue list but it also deserves a spot in the historic category. The main house is a stunning area for your event activities to take place. The bridal suite has gorgeous natural light and the guys get a fantastic space with a balcony to hang out on wedding day.
The Loudoun House
The Loudoun House is located in downtown Lexington and is a beautiful Gothic Revival building. Home to the Lexington Art League, it is also available for rental for your wedding. This space is best for smaller parties with a guest list of 150 or under.
The Galerie is a brand new wedding venue that is housed within a remodeled historic church in Versailles, KY. They are located right behind the Woodford County courthouse and is part of a movement that is revitalizing the downtown Versailles area. This venue features one of the best bridal suites around and the main ceremony & reception area is a fabulously elegant blank space for your wedding decor.
The Carrick House is a cool combo of historic and modern. There’s a large manor that can be utilized but then there is a large ballroom that is perfect for your reception. In the middle of those two areas is another nice modern room with a water feature that encompasses the entire wall. The Carrick House has a lot to offer!
The Gatsby on Main
Most of the venues on here are in Lexington or very nearby but we felt like the Gatsby on Main in Shelbyville was worth making the list. This historic downtown venue is like something out of the Roaring 20s, glam and history mixing together. Super cool!
Castle & Key
Castle & Key is a recently renovated distillery that can be rented for a wedding or event. We love the combo of historic and industrial vibes!
Nestled in downtown Lexington, right next to the historic Gratz Park, is the Bodley-Bullock House. The house is lovely itself and the garden is a sweet, lush space. You can charm your guests with a garden wedding under a canopy of twinkling lights!
Mustard Seed Hill
One of our favorite new venues is Mustard Seed Hill and once you see it, you’ll understand why. This used to be a military academy in Millersburg, KY. The interior decor is perfect and every bride needs a spiral staircase, right? The groom’s quarters are amazing with a pool table, tons of space for hanging out and a room that features a huge antique bar.
Boone Tavern is a historic hotel located in one of the cutest little towns in Kentucky. This space can accommodate up to 150 people and your ceremony can take place in the Boone Tavern Garden or under their covered portico. The white exterior makes this such a lovely place for light and airy portraits!
Dr. Thomas Hunt-Morgan House
The Thomas Hunt-Morgan House is located near Gratz Park in downtown Lexington. This beautiful space can accommodate up to 300 guests. Within the venue, which is decorated in early 19th century furnishings, you get access to the Parlor, Dining Room, Dr. Thomas Hunt Morgan Room, and the Foyer.
This stunning venue’s official name is The Club at UK’s Spindletop Hall. The original farm was established in 1935 and has over 45,000 square feet of floor space. There is a gorgeous library, the back patio is lovely for an outdoor ceremony and the lounge downstairs in the basement is one of the most unique spaces we’ve seen.
In Paris, Kentucky, you’ll find a venue that is dripping with pure Southern Charm. GlenLary Estate is located in the heart of the Bluegrass on more than 80 acres of rolling Kentucky hills. The mansion was built in 1840 but it also has the sweetness of a farm venue. Your groom is sure to love the Cabin where he and the groomsmen can spend the early day in a hunting lodge atmosphere.
The Ashley Inn
We mentioned the Ashley Inn in our list of barn and outdoor venues but because the house is such a big part of the venue, we needed to include it here as well. The Ashley Inn is located in Lancaster on a gorgeous farm and the main house is perfect to get ready in. There are so many amazing places on this property!
The Bell House
This lovely house was built to combine Greek, Queen Anne and Romantic styles and is located in downtown Lexington. The Bell House can accommodate up to 150 people. It’s where we had our wedding reception a long time ago!
